Should I Propose? (Marriage Readiness Test)

Congratulations! You’ve found the person who makes your heart skip a beat, and you’re considering taking the next big step: marriage. But how do you know if you should propose? Are they “the one”? Are you ready?

Proposing to your significant other is an exciting and life-changing moment, but it’s also essential to make sure you’re truly ready for this lifelong commitment. Marriage is a beautiful and rewarding journey, but it’s important to enter it with your eyes wide open.

To help you determine your readiness for marriage, we’ve put together a fun little checklist that should help you focus your feelings into a deeper understanding, making you more confident when deciding whether or not to propose.

The Marriage Readiness Test

Scoring System: Assign a score of 1 to 5 for each item on the checklist, with 1 being “not ready” and 5 being “completely ready.”

  1. Communication: Are you and your partner able to openly and honestly discuss your feelings, thoughts, and concerns with each other? Effective communication is the foundation of a strong relationship.
  2. Conflict resolution: Do you have a healthy approach to resolving disagreements and conflicts? Every couple will face challenges, and it’s essential to navigate them in a respectful and constructive manner.
  3. Shared values and goals: Do you and your partner share similar values, beliefs, and aspirations for the future? Aligning on these fundamental aspects can significantly contribute to a successful marriage.
  4. Emotional maturity: Are you both emotionally mature and capable of handling the responsibilities and compromises that come with marriage?
  5. Financial stability: Have you discussed your financial goals and expectations? Money can be a significant source of stress in relationships, so it’s crucial to have a clear understanding of each other’s financial habits and objectives.
  6. Trust: Do you trust each other completely? Trust is the cornerstone of any lasting relationship.
  7. Support system: Do you have a strong support system of friends and family who will be there for you during your marriage journey?
  8. Relationship history: Have you both learned from your past relationships and grown as individuals?
  9. Quality time: Are you able to prioritize spending quality time together and maintaining a strong bond?
  10. Commitment: Are you both truly committed to each other and willing to work together to overcome any challenges that may arise?
  11. Bonus Points: Sexual Chemistry. A strong physical connection can be an important aspect of a successful marriage for many couples. How would you rate the sexual chemistry between you and your partner? Assign a score of 0 to 5 for this bonus item, with 0 being “no chemistry” and 5 being “intense chemistry.”
